All federal direct parent loans for the upcoming academic year will be made directly by the federal government through Direct Lending.
The amount of Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan you may borrow varies based on your total financial aid offer. Please contact your students Personal Financial Aid Counselor if you need assistance with determining the maximum amount allowed.
Unlike Federal Direct Subsidized/Subsidized Loans, Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans require credit approval. There is no separate application for credit approval. Requesting a PLUS Loan will initiate a credit check. (If credit is not approved, the parent will have an opportunity to appeal or to obtain a cosigner for loan approval. Parents may contact Direct Loans at 800-557-7394 for instructions.)
- Proceed to the federal government's Direct Lending website StudentAid.gov and sign in with FSA ID.
- Select "Apply for a Parent Plus Loan". This initiates the credit check.
- Complete a Plus Master Promissory Note (MPN).
