"I like beautiful things, and I like to create beautiful things.”
- Zhaojuan SUN
Zhaojuan's work aims to create a sensuous world of joy, and a romantic world of pleasure that is full filled with the illusion of motion. She is interested in expressing movements through stillness and presence through absence. Her imaginative spaces are filled with beatific colors and delightful compositions; they are spaces indulging in tinkling intricate curvilinear decorative patterns, toasting with illusionary movements and humorous variations of rocaille. They are spaces occupied with the joy of their own making, brimming with leisurely attitudes and decorative ways of living.
Her visual and color vocabulary is greatly inspired by old master like Peter Pual Rubens, Ingre; Post-Impressionists Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh and expressionist Cy Twombly, Basquiat, William de Kooning, Cecily Brown and George Condo.
